Spike in litter after McDonald's opens new branch in Nottinghamshire
by Laycie Beck · NottinghamshireLiveFollowing the opening of a new McDonald's visitors have noticed more litter in the area. On Wednesday, October 23, the fast food giant opened its second location in Newark at a site on London Road.
The new location is closer to the town centre and has created around 50 full and part-time jobs. However, since the restaurant opened more litter has been seen in the area, including a number of discarded food wrappers and bags from the chain.
The chain has reassured visitors that it will be conducting litter patrols to identify any litter hotspots surrounding the restaurant. During these sessions, they collect all litter, not just McDonald’s packaging.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: "At McDonald’s, we strive to be a good neighbour in the communities we serve. We take our responsibility around litter very seriously, which is why, for over 40 years, McDonald’s restaurant teams have carried out daily litter patrols in local communities.
"We look forward to working together with the local community in Newark to identify any litter hotspots surrounding the restaurant, which we will look to include in our litter patrols wherever possible.”
