The Pentagon announced Tuesday that more than 800 military personnel will get honorable discharges after previously being kicked out of the military under its former “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Under the policy, gay and lesbian troops could serve in the armed forces if they did not disclose their sexual orientation

It is the latest development over the decades to undo past discrimination against LGBTQ service members.

Hundreds of veterans who were dismissed from the U.S. military under the now-repealed “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy have been given honorable discharges following a yearlong review, the Pentagon announced Tuesday. 

More than 800 service members administratively separated from the military under the now-repealed policy will receive discharge upgrades.

Oct. 15 (UPI) -- More than 800 U.S. military veterans kicked out of the service because of their sexual orientation under the former policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will received their long-awaited honorable discharges years after its repeal, the U.S. government said Tuesday.
