A man has thrown several firebombs into the headquarters of Japan’s ruling party in Tokyo, according to public broadcaster NHK and other Japanese media.

Tokyo police arrested a 49-year-old man for hurling firebombs at the Liberal Democratic Party headquarters. No injuries were reported during the incident. 

An assailant tried to breach security at the office of the new prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, a public broadcaster reported.
