Brummies have been told to brace for wet weather and strong winds as Storm Ashley moves in. The UK is set to brace 80mph gales today as a rare 'danger to life' warning was issued yesterday in relation to the oncoming storm.

Heavy rain is expected to cause widespread travel chaos, with the Environment Agency issuing flood alerts and warnings for the whole of the UK. Regionally, Worcesteshire is the worst hit, with a number of roads closed.

While 80mph winds will batter Scotland and the northern areas of the UK today, there will be a knock on effect on the West Midlands with wet weather and strong winds. Met Office forecasters said Birmingham would be "rather wet this morning", with a band of rain spreading steadily eastwards.
