The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Devon, as Storm Ashley is expected to batter the county with heavy rainfall in the early hours of Sunday morning (October 20).

The weather warning is in effect from 3am until midday on Sunday and covers large areas of the south-west, including Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

People in these areas can expect disruption to public transport services, with journey times taking longer, as well as flooding and spray on the roads likely making journey times by car longer, too. There may also be some interruption to power supplies and other services.

The Met Office has warned: "Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, will push east across the warning area through Sunday morning.

"Most areas will see 15-25 mm of rain, whilst upslopes exposed to the strong southerly winds could see 35-45 mm, possibly as much as 65 mm for parts of Dartmoor. Given recent wet weather, expected totals are likely to cause some disruption, before rain clears late morning."

Rain is expected to hit south-west Devon from around 3am, with areas such as Plymouth and Tavistock being most affected, experiencing up to 8mm of rainfall an hour in Plymouth between around 4am and 8.30am. Meanwhile, Tavistock is forecast to be hit by up to 32mm of rain an hour at around 7am.
