Samsung's Galaxy S24 FE will get seven years of updates
by Justin Diaz · Android HeadlinesContinuing this trend of software updates for several years after the phone’s release, Samsung has promised seven years of software updates for the Galaxy S24 FE, just like it has with its mainline Galaxy S24 series. Samsung didn’t pioneer this offering for Android phones, of course. That honor goes to Google when it launched the Pixel 8 series last Fall. Following in Google’s footsteps, Samsung promised the same amount of updates for its flagship phones.
And now that extends to the Fan Edition. This also makes the Galaxy S24 FE the least expensive Samsung phone so far to receive seven years of updates. That will probably make it a little more enticing to anyone who ends up looking for a new phone. In addition to the seven years of software updates, the Galaxy S24 FE comes with most of the Galaxy S24’s best features. Including the Galaxy AI features, the decent battery life, and the cameras.
The Galaxy S24 FE gets seven years of software updates for both the OS and security
This probably surprises no one who was already aware of Google’s promises, or Samsung’s follow-up to this initiative with the original Galaxy S24 lineup. But the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will get seven years of software updates for both the OS upgrades and the security features. This means you’ll be able to keep your phone up to date with the latest OS features for quite some time. On top of that, you can rest assured that the software on the phone will stay secure for that same length of time.
This trend of longer software support is something that hopefully expands beyond Google and Samsung. Especially since it means people will be able to keep their phones longer without upgrading to something new.
The updates start from the phone’s launch date
If you were wondering when exactly this whole thing starts, Samsung says it begins with the phone’s launch. So with the phone launching next week, that means seven years of updates from that point. So you should end up with updates for the OS and the security software well into 2031. Just imagine not needing to upgrade your phone until 2031 unless you’re looking for some updated hardware.
While there are plenty of people who like the newest shiniest thing, there are loads of consumers who sometimes update just because they want a phone with continued software support. And that’s a valid reason. That’s no longer going to be necessary, however, provided you upgrade to the right phone. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 FE is up for pre-order today starting at $649.99.
