Rumor suggests possible March launch for Nintendo Switch 2

A new rumor is circulating about the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, suggesting that it could be coming as early as March 2025. Several rumors have surfaced at this point speculating about the launch of Nintendo’s next console. At first, it was believed to be coming in late 2024. Nintendo eventually commented that the console was coming sometime in 2025 following rumors about the console’s delay.

Nintendo didn’t specifically mention the Nintendo Switch 2 by name, but it did reference the Switch’s follow-up and said it would be coming next year. Previous reports have also stated that Nintendo is expected to reveal the Switch 2 before next April. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that the March or April timeline has come up. The past report about the delay noted it might not be coming until at least March 2025. While another said it would be “at least Spring.”

This latest rumor seems to support those theories and it’s looking more and more likely that March or April will be the timeframe to expect.

The latest Nintendo Switch 2 launch rumor is based on comments from an accessory company

According to Wccftech (via Spanish publication Vandal), the rumor stems from an interview that Vandal had with the CEO of Blade, Reuben Mercado. Blade makes accessories for video game consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. In the interview, which took place on the most recent episode of the Vandal Radio Podcast, Mercado says the Nintendo Switch 2’s development is already complete. Mercado also states that “the planned release window is between March and April.”

So the timing lines up with what other rumors have already said. Mercado does make some other comments to support this prediction though. According to Mercado, Nintendo might launch the Switch 2 in March if the company needs to strengthen its end-of-fiscal-year sales numbers. However, Nintendo may choose to release the console in April if sales are deemed strong enough. So it sounds like the timing of when Nintendo plans to release its next console might depend on how its sales are.

It’s already been suggested that Nintendo wasn’t planning to launch the console until it had big games to launch along with it. And Nintendo has already confirmed that there were no more big first-party games coming this fiscal year.

The new JoyCon controllers may use different analog sticks

In addition to talking about the launch, Marcado also touches on the analog sticks for the new JoyCon controllers. Blade, which has made sticks for the original Nintendo Switch, reportedly won’t be able to reuse the old ones for this new console, Mercado says. He doesn’t offer up any more details about the sticks other than this fact. However, it appears to be a teaser that Nintendo is changing them up somehow.

Mercado mentions the rumored magnetic attachment system for the controllers. Stating that they will use this type of attachment system, paired with a lock that keeps them “firmly attached.” There’s no mention of price, but Mercado speculates that Nintendo will charge somewhere in the $400 – $500 range.
