Android 16 set to launch early in 2025
As soon as April!
by Kristian Kask · Tech AdvisorGoogle recently launched the Android 15 mobile operating system for its Pixel phones, but it won’t be too long before it’s time for another upgrade. The company has announced on its developer blog that Android 16 will be launched in the first half of 2025.
At most, there will be just under nine months between the launch of Android 15 in mid-October this year and the planned launch of Android 16 before the end of June next year. We could see as soon as April.
“We’re planning the major release for Q2 rather than Q3 to better align with the schedule of device launches across our ecosystem, so more devices can get the major release of Android sooner,” said Google.
In addition to the release of Android 16 in the second quarter of 2025, Google will also release another update to the mobile operating system at the end of 2025.
“Going forward, Android will have more frequent SDK releases with two releases planned in 2025 with new developer APIs. These releases will help to drive faster innovation in apps and devices, with higher stability and polish for users and developers,” said Google.
We haven’t yet heard any rumours about what new features we will see in Android 16 but that will likely change very soon.
