Further delays to the opening of Birmingham cafe that's been 'coming soon' for years

Yorks was due to open on Tuesday, October 8 and yet the windows were still covered with signs saying 'we're almost there'

A cafe that has been 'coming soon' to Birmingham city centre for two years remained closed on its announced launch date yesterday, Tuesday, October 8. Yorks Cafe on the Paradise development in Chamberlain Square was due to open to the public but the doors stayed shut and the windows covered at the venue.

Yorks, which has a cafe on Stephenson Street as well as in the Ikon Gallery, was initially to open in the spring of 2022, with Paradise declaring that the all-day-dining restaurant and cafe would take over the spot beside Rosa's Thai. It was then announced to the public that it would be ready to welcome customers on October 8 of this year.

However, Yorks remains closed to the public and window coverings are still obscuring the interior of the unit. We've now been informed that the location will be open to customers from Saturday, October 12.

Yorks' other cafe, down near Birmingham New Street station is also closed to the public. The venue is shut for refurbishments and a sign in the window recommends customers visit the Ikon Gallery location or the spot on Chamberlain Square.

The venue is one of many scheduled to open in the city centre ahead of Christmas and one of three due to launch on the Paradise estate. You can check out our full list for details on what's to come.
