They said: "Damp dusting works best. I live in the Mojave Desert. It's a losing battle."

Echoing the sentiment, another user responded, claiming: "Damp cloth and a little fairy liquid keeps the dust off my black TV unit.", reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, another individual added their voice to the conversation: "I never dust a total waste of time for the above reason in your comment. I use polish or good old fashioned damp dusting where it lifts the dust and not spread it around."

Cleaning guru Ann Russell, famed for her household hacks on TikTok as @annrussell03, has also given the thumbs up to this approach. In a video dedicated to the art of dusting, she explained: "Think about what you're doing when you swipe something down with salad dressing. Oil is sticky as it dries so when the dust comes down it sticks to it."

She added: "The answer to dusting is damp dust. It doesn't deter dusting from surfaces. Dust is particulate matter in the area. Gravity is a thing. What goes up, it comes down and it rests on your surfaces. Now if you just dust it with a dry cloth or a feather duster, you knock it back in the air and it lands again, so you damp dust."

She recommends using 'warm, hot soapy water' alongside a cloth for tackling dust effectively.
