GTA 5 PC players are about to get the exclusive features from console versions
As GTA 6 gets closer, Rockstar confirms that Grand Theft Auto 5 PC players are getting GTAO features that were once exclusive to consoles.
by Ed Smith · PCGamesNIt may seem slow, but GTA 6 is gradually looming larger on the horizon. In the next chapter of Rockstar’s open-world crime saga, we’ll finally be heading back to Vice City, and taking in some of that sweet Leonida sunshine. Until then, however, Los Santos remains our center of illegal operations, and it’s good news for Grand Theft Auto 5 PC players. Rockstar confirms that the upcoming GTA Online update for December will introduce new robberies, Dispatch Work missions, and possibly the return of one of the story mode’s central characters. More importantly, the Red Dead Redemption 2 developer says that GTA 5 features that were previously exclusive to current-gen consoles will finally make the jump to PC in 2025.
The GTA 6 release date is still on its way – and will likely arrive later for PC players – but based on the latest Grand Theft Auto 5 update, there’s still plenty of joy to be found in the state of San Andreas. In December, the Darnell Bros Garment Factory will fall under new management – collaborating with Pavel and “a former FIB officer turned independent contractor,” you’ll transform the factory into a front for new robberies. Firstly, it sounds like Dave Norton, Michael’s contact in the main story, could be making an appearance. Secondly, Rockstar confirms that you’ll be able to access the Garment Factory missions from a new app on your iFruit phone, which saves the legwork of going back there to restart any time a job goes awry.
The sandbox game is also getting additional Dispatch Work missions, an update to the job creation system, and a new collectible scanner to help you pinpoint action figures, props, and the rest of Los Santos’ hidden treasures. More important than the December update, however, is what comes after.
Rockstar confirms that, in the new year, it has “plans to bring the much-requested PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S features of GTA Online to the PC platform.” While the developer doesn’t specify what these may be, and says that it will provide more details soon, the console editions of GTA 5 give you access to an expanded range of high-performance cars via Hao’s Special Works. The PS5 and Xbox versions also include performance mode, which targets 60fps and 4K resolution, and the option to enable ray tracing.
Loading times are faster and there’s greater variety in pedestrians and NPC cars as well as improved shadows and water effects, and a variety of smaller quality-of-life improvements, including an overhauled tutorial and a new main menu. Hopefully some, and perhaps all, of these features will make it to GTA 5 on PC. Let’s see.
In the meantime, we’ve got all the latest GTA 5 mods, as well as the best GTA 5 cheats to use in 2024.
