Kinetic Games' Phasmophobia has arrived on consoles this week, just in time for Halloween, and while the game is still in early access on all platforms, there's still an horrifically good time to be had.

Phasmophobia has been haunting Steam since its 2020 early access launch, which was a smash hit, thanks to its P.T.-inspired horror vibes, and the fact you can embark on its terrifying ghost-hunting expeditions with your friends. The game got its console release this week, with an early access launch on PS5, PSVR 2 and Xbox Series X|S so of course, the first question on everyone's lips is whether or not they can buddy up with their fellow spirit stalkers on different platforms.

The good news is that Phasmophobia does have crossplay, so you can team up with friends regardless of your individual platforms. Another cool feature for friends playing Phasmophobia, crossplay or otherwise, is the map access. There are 13 maps in the game, and while you can only play those you've unlocked, it's possible to play on a map you've yet to unlock by joining another player's lobby who already has access.

We'll go into the ins-and-outs of Phasmophobia crossplay below, but be warned, there is no cross-progression right now. And possibly not ever. In the FAQ posted on the game's official Twitter account (which also confirmed that Phasmophobia crossplay was a thing), Kinetic Games touches on cross-progression, saying the feature is not supported. Given that the developer has mentioned plans to implement full voice recognition for console down the line, the lack of additional comment on cross-progression suggests it's not a feature that will roll out eventually. But if we hear otherwise, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, here's everything you need to know about Phasmophobia crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Phasmophobnia crossplay explained

Does Phamophobia crossplay need explaining? Apparently so judgung by the questions surrounding it over on reddit. It's actually pretty simple, so long as you remember to tick off the required caveats between you and the friends you want to hop into a game with. And Phasmophobia crossplay works across all of the platforms it's released on, so you can play with a friend on PSVR 2 as well.

  • Ensure all players have Phasmophobia crossplay setting turned on
  • Create a private room / lobby (not a requirement but recommended)
  • Make sure all players are on the same regional server as the host
  • Have the host share their invite code with the group

And hey, presto! You'll be enjoying Phasmophobia crossplay in no time! Bear in mind that voice recognition on PC recognises phrases you may want to say to the ghosts, while console players are limited to text inputs for now. However, the ghosts can still hear all of you nattering away, even if they're not registering phrases for the feature on console yet, so stay quiet if you don't want them hearing you – no matter which platform you're on.
