It’s a new month and time for the latest instalment in our Top Tech series, where our tech, TV and shopping experts highlight our favourite deals. Twice a week, we will be bringing you the best products we believe are worth your money and how to get your hands on some big discounts.

As we get closer to Christmas, many brands will be gearing up for huge sales like Black Friday and Amazon’s Big Deal Days. Every year, events like these give shoppers countless ways to save money on the latest devices and gadgets, but you don’t have to wait around to save a pretty penny.

Sky is already offering customers a big saving on its Sky Glass, TV and Netflix bundle, as well as launching a raft of cool updates. Sky Glass is the provider’s own 4K QLED smart TV with Dolby Atmos sound that comes with Sky channels and streaming apps built in.

It offers the same content as traditional Sky but allows you to stream TV over WiFi rather than using a Sky box or satellite dish. It comes with Sky’s Entertainment package as standard, providing access to the latest must-see HBO shows on Sky Atlantic – the only place to watch new Batman spin-off, The Penguin, and the upcoming second season of The Last of Us – and easy access to streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+.

The package also comes with a free Netflix subscription, so you catch top titles like Bridgerton, Baby Reindeer and the second season of Squid Game when it lands on December 26. The smart TV is available in a choice of three screen sizes ranging from 43” to 65”, so you can choose an option that best suits your room size.

There’s also a choice of five colours including Anthracite Black, Ocean Blue and Ceramic White. Prices range from £14 to £24 when spreading the cost depending on the screen size, while the Sky TV and Netflix bundle is free for the first three months – a saving of £84.

After the promotional period, the subscription will revert to the usual £28, as well as the cost of the TV. This means the total cost before any discounts starts at £42 for a shiny new 4K smart TV, Sky channels and Netflix, while Sky Cinema and Sky Sports can be added for an extra £10 and £20 respectively.

Signing up for a Sky Glass package locks customers into a 48-month plan, while the TV and Netflix bundle is a 24-month plan, but it gives shoppers a great way to offset the cost of a high-spec smart TV without paying hundreds up front, as well as providing all your TV and film needs in one convenient bundle. Sky also offers a 31-day return period so you can send the TV back for free if you decide it’s not for you.

The TV runs on Sky’s own software, which regularly receives a raft of free updates, with the latest changes adding to its enhanced voice control feature. Users can already say ‘Hello Sky’ and ask it to play your favourite shows, but now you can say the lyrics from beloved theme tunes to get instant access to the programme.

For example, to watch Friends, you can now say ‘I’ll be there for you’, to be sent straight to the beloved sitcom, while Only Fools and Horses fans can say ‘God bless Hooky Street’ to watch the British classic. You can also quote iconic lines from films like ‘May the Force be with you’ to watch the Star Wars saga or enjoy the filmography of Hollywood actors by simply saying their name.

Sky Glass members can catch the second season of The Last of Us when it premieres next year

Sky Glass is also ideal for sports fans, as a recent update reduced latency by 20 seconds on Sky Sports Main Event, reducing the time between a goal hitting the back of the net and reaching the TV. Gamers can also benefit from the device with its Auto Game Mode, which uses Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) to deliver a responsive gaming experience without lag.

Aside from Sky, we’ve also spotted a popular streaming deal is coming to an end as Disney+ is set to increase its prices. From October 17, the streamer will up the cost of its Standard annual plan to £89.90.

The 12-month subscription currently costs £79.90, offering members 12 months for the price of 10 compared to paying monthly. You can still get this discount by signing up to the Standard annual plan by October 16, allowing you to lock in the current price for the next year, or bag a bigger saving with the Premium annual plan for £109.90.
