Sony launches PS5 Pro preorders on Amazon

The PS5 30th Anniversary digital console is dropping on certain sites including Amazon and more, so keep an eye out for it.

The original PlayStation 5 stock is so popular historically it has evaporated as soon as it goes live, and very soon you could even get your hands on the ultra-powerful new PS5 Pro from Amazon. The standard edition comes in at £699.99, and there’s also a stylised 30th anniversary bundle available for £959.99. Keep your eyes locked on this link for new stock to arrive as, in line with tradition, the latest PS5 tends to fly off the shelves!

On top of the already awe-inspiring graphical capabilities of the PS5 that have delivered such gorgeous titles as Horizon: Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok, and Astro Bot, the PS5 Pro stands to raise the bar to new heights.

With a more powerful processor and graphics chip, the PS5 Pro is capable of raising games’ frame rates as high as 120 frames per second, resulting in ultra-smooth motion that, once experienced, is tough to return from. This kind of performance, typically reserved for the most high-end PCs where the latest games are concerned, is joined by advanced ray tracing capabilities.

Ray tracing — tech that makes light operate more realistically in digital environments — has already set a new standard for lighting quality in the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. With the PS5 Pro’s overcharged power, ray tracing will not only be available at higher frame rates but its quality will be higher too. It’s very power-hungry tech, but the new PS5 Pro is poised to handle it with ease.

In the box you’ll find the PS5 Pro console, a Dualsense controller, a pair of stands, and all the cables you need to get hooked up and started. As with the base PS5, Astro’s Playroom comes installed on the system, and it’s a very solid little title. It must be noted that, at £699.99, the PS5 Pro doesn’t come with a disc drive, so any PS4 or PS5 discs in your collection will need the disc drive sold separately for around £100.

The digital-only PS5 Slim, currently on offer for £340, currently has an average Amazon user score of 4.6/5 from over 400 reviews. 85% of those reviews give full marks, too! “The graphics are stunning, with super smooth gameplay that truly enhances the gaming experience,” said one user. “The load times are practically non-existent, and the console’s performance is top-notch.” Others are pleased with how quietly PS5s operate: “Works perfectly and audibly quieter than the original PS5.”

“Sleek, quiet and great performance! Takes up little space too and the load times are really fast. Well worth the upgrade from my PS4. Highly recommend,” said another happy customer.

Less-positive reviews are generally limited to delivery-related problems, although some have expressed disappointment that “it doesn’t come with stands or a charger for the controller.” While the box will contain a USB lead for your controller, you will need to purchase a stand separately if you want one.

Others noted disappointment with the storage capacity. One user said: “For some reason, the PS5 Slim doesn’t have 1TB. It instead has 825 GB like a standard PS5.” The reason for this is that the operating system is on the hard drive and takes up a chunk of space, but this is true of all game consoles at present. The PS5 Pro will also feature a 2TB SSD rather than the standard edition’s 1TB.

As well as at Amazon, the PS5 Pro can also be ordered directly from Sony, and from Currys. Prices are static across all retailers in these early days, so unfortunately the full price is what you’ll pay for the time being.
