Samsung Galaxy S24 FE gets formally announced
by Abid Ahsan Shanto · GizchinaAfter the accidental online store listing, Samsung formally announced the Galaxy S24 FE. It’s joining the other three phones within the series. Considering its specs, it is an affordable alternative to the S24+.
Main Highlights of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE
The Galaxy S24 FE features a larger 6.7-inch display and a bigger battery to support extended usage. Samsung has prioritized improved performance in this model. It has introduced the ProVisual engine to the FE series for enhanced visuals.
Unlike previous years, there will be no regional variations in chipsets for the Galaxy S24 FE. That means all the variants pack the Exynos 2400e processor. Although Samsung hasn’t shared full details yet, it’s an underclocked variant of the Exynos 2400. This might impact peak performance. However, sustained performance is expected to improve significantly due to a larger vapor chamber that is 1.1x bigger than its predecessor.
The performance upgrade from the Galaxy S23 FE to the S24 FE is substantial, especially considering the S23 FE had to use a mix of Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips (both from 2022) due to the absence of the Exynos 2300.
Display, Storage, and More On the ProVisual Engine
The Galaxy S24 FE comes with 8GB of RAM, which is the same as the standard Galaxy S24. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The RAM capacity does not affect the phone’s ability to run Galaxy AI.
The Galaxy S24 FE features a 6.7-inch display, which is 0.3 inches larger than its predecessor. While it has the same diagonal as the S24+, it uses an FHD+ OLED panel instead of a QHD+ LTPO panel. This makes the FE a more affordable option compared to the S24+. The display has a refresh rate of 120Hz or 60Hz and includes Vision Booster for improved visibility in bright conditions.
Gizchina News of the week
Samsung has introduced the ProVisual engine from the flagship series to the FE line. This engine combines Nightography (AI ISP for better low-light photos) with an object-aware engine that optimizes colors in Super HDR. Additionally, the system offers an optical-quality 2x zoom.
Camera and Other Highlights of Galaxy S24 FE
The Galaxy S24 FE features a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. Additional zoom options include a 3x 8MP telephoto module (f/2.4) and a 12MP 123° ultra-wide lens (f/2.2). The selfie camera has a 10MP sensor. While the hardware appears to be similar to last year’s model, the improved processing power and ProVisual engine enhance image quality.
As for the battery capacity of the Galaxy S24 FE, it has increased to 4,700mAh. This is 200mAh more than the S23 FE. However, the charging speeds remain the same at 25W wired (0-50% in 30 minutes) and 15W wireless.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy S24 FE is launching with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. This is not ideal timing, considering Android 15 is imminent. But the FE is receiving flagship-level software support. Samsung has committed to providing 7 OS generations and 7 years of security updates for the device.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is now available for pre-order. The device will be available on October 3. The base model with 128GB of storage is priced at $650. Please note that the 512GB storage option may not be available in all regions.
