Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e will be the brand’s first born electric SUVs based on a skateboard platform; to likely launch soon following the global debut

As we previously told you, Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to unveil its first-ever born electric vehicle on November 26, 2024. The confirmation of the launch date has been accompanied by a teaser video as Mahindra prepares to bring in not one but two zero-emission vehicles at the Unlimit India event scheduled to take place in Chennai.

The teaser gives us a clear indication of what is in store as Mahindra has been testing its upcoming range of e-SUVs over the last year or so on public roads. The electrified SUV derived from the BE.05 concept will carry the production name ‘BE 6e’ while the ‘XEV 9e’ will be the road-going version of the XUV.e9 concept carrying a coupe-like roofline.

The distinctive overall styling of both models announces the homegrown manufacturer’s future design philosophy with imposing LED Daytime Running Lights and connected light bars sitting atop an upright front fascia. The duo boasts a large greenhouse with a steeply raked front windshield and short overhangs highlighting the sporty side profiles.

However, they will ride high retaining the SUV identity, complemented by the large sized aero-styled alloy wheels and muscular wheel arch claddings. Capitalising on the large proportions, they will feature panoramic sunroofs and the one in the BE 6e can be seen in the teaser. The new flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting and the triple screen layout will be other highlights.

The presence of a dedicated INGLO skateboard architecture pushes the wheels to the edges taking advantage of the optimal battery positioning underneath the floor. Thus, the Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e will have spacious interiors and sizeable boot volumes. It remains to be seen whether both single and dual electric motor setups will be available at the time of unveiling.

The Mahindra BE 6e will compete directly with the recently launched Tata Curvv EV and will feature a Valeo-supplied electric motor producing 231 hp and 380 Nm of torque, powering the rear wheels. Buyers can choose between two battery options: a 60 kWh pack and a larger 79 kWh pack. The 79 kWh variant will likely have a claimed range of over 450 km according to the WLTP cycle. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e could spawn ‘XEV 8e’ based on the XUV.e8 concept in the near future.
