An Apple Watch has once again proven its life-saving potential by helping an elderly woman detect a serious heart condition, prompting timely medical intervention. The incident was shared on social media by Nikias Molina, who revealed that his grandmother's Apple Watch Series 10 detected an irregular heartbeat, leading to a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition that can result in serious complications if left untreated.

According to Molina, the Apple Watch’s ECG (electrocardiogram) feature alerted his grandmother to an irregularity in her heartbeat, urging her to seek immediate medical attention.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Molina shared a picture of the watch alert and wrote, "My Apple Watch Series 10 detected my grandmother's atrial fibrillation today using the ECG feature. She's now at the hospital and receiving the care she needs. I still can't believe it." His post quickly garnered attention, accumulating over 2.2 million views, with several users sharing similar stories of how the Apple Watch’s health-tracking features have saved lives.

One user commented, "I had the same experience with my mom's Apple Watch detecting her AFib. The first test at the hospital showed nothing, but the ER doctor insisted on further testing because of the watch alerts. Sure enough, it was AFib, and she’s alive because of the early detection."

Another user shared a story of how an iPhone’s emergency SOS feature saved a friend's life after a car accident, demonstrating the impact of Apple's health and safety technology.

The Apple Watch, known for its advanced health-monitoring features, goes beyond just tracking steps or sleep. Its ECG app allows users to take an electrocardiogram right from their wrist, potentially identifying serious heart conditions like AFib. Over the years, there have been numerous cases of people crediting the watch for detecting conditions such as low heart rates, high heart rates, and even life-threatening falls, which automatically trigger emergency alerts.

In addition to heart-related features, Apple has been expanding its health and safety ecosystem with new functionalities like fall detection, blood oxygen monitoring, and emergency satellite communication.
