Dalymount Park redevelopment plan

Bohemians and Sligo Rovers to share €41m towards Dalymount Park and Showgrounds redevelopments

by · Irish Mirror

The redevelopment of Dalymount Park will take a massive step forward on Monday morning when there will be confirmation of a €25 million investment in the crumbling stadium - part of a massive €43.75 million investment into League of Ireland facilities.

Ministers Catherine Martin and Thomas Byrne will be at the Phibsborough ground to announce the recipients of the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF).

The news of the financial injection into Dalymount Park's makeover will bring the transformation of the one-time home of Irish football into a modern, state-of-the-art arena one step closer.

Dublin City Councillors earlier this year agreed on the €40 million redevelopment, which would turn the stadium into an 8,000-capacity venue, including 6,240 seats and standing space for another 1,794 people.

Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell confirmed the news of the Dalymount funding on X on Sunday night, writing: "Fantastic to see €25m invested in Dalymount Park for a new stadium & UEFA standard pitch; along with €7m to be invested in Morton Stadium for an indoor track, training facilities etc. This is part of a €173m investment plan, part of the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund."

The actual total that Dalymount will receive is €24,700,000 - the largest slice of the €173,250,000 total LSSIF allocation for 2024.

Next is the Cavan Regional Sports Campus on €19 million, with Sligo Rovers' Showgrounds redevelopment to benefit to the tune of €16.4 million. That will go towards a significant upgrade of the existing stadium into a modern multi-sport arena, with community accessible indoor facilities.

Wexford will get €2 million for pitch development, stand and training pitch works. And Shamrock Rovers' Tallaght Stadium home is set to receive €650,000 towards the upgrading of floodlights to an LED standard.

In September, Sligo Rovers received €376,270 under the Government’s Community Sports Facility Fund to go towards floodlights, astro and facility upgrades.

At the time, chairman Tommy Higgins said: "This is a very significant investment and enables us to take the next steps in the redevelopment of the Showgrounds. I want to take this opportunity to thank Minister Catherine Martin, Minister of State Thomas Byrne and Frank Feighan TD for the interest they have taken in our development plans for the Showgrounds.

"We look forward to working with officials from the department to progress the works covered under this grant. These works are an integral part our Master Plan for the Showgrounds, and with funding allocations under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) expected shortly, these are very exciting times for the Sligo Rovers community as we aim to deliver a modern multi-sports stadium in the lead up to our Centenary celebrations in 2028."
