Muireann O’Connell’s genius cleaning hack has the most unexpected ingredient

Muireann O'Connell is known for fashion and beauty tips which she often shares on her social media, and her most recent one is a genius cleaning hack for any wool pieces you have in your wardrobe.

In a video posted to her Instagram page, Muireann explained the method she has been using to keep her wool coats and jumpers clean and fresh for winter, using one unexpected ingredient.

The presenter revealed that she has been using none other than vodka to keep her winter wool odourless!

The 42-year-old demonstrated the method in a video of her sat in her sitting room, showing herself using a one-to-one ratio of water and vodka to make the concoction in a spray bottle.

Muireann explained: “So you take half a bottle of vodka, then you top it up with half a glass of water, you shake it up and then you spray it all over your wools. I do this on my wool coat, I do this on my wax jacket as well."

She went on saying: “What it does is the mixture attacks the bacteria that causes odour, and you don’t have to put your precious wools into the washing machine, protecting them for a longer time. I’ve been doing this for months now, but it works!”

The Ireland AM star mentioned that the hack is “decades, if not centuries, old,” but she finds it useful in the coming months when we’ll be taking our wool jumpers out daily.

Muireann’s caption on the post went more in depth on her clothing trick, saying: "How’re ya! This hack is decades, if not centuries, old. Pretty sure I had a grand-aunt who used vodka as a cleaner.

“We did it on @irelandamvmtv as well recently on a cleaning clothes segment. Great tips!"

She continued, saying: “I try to wash proper wool as little as possible. Often hang it in the bathroom when the shower is going to give it a steam clean. Do a lot of air cleaning but this hack totally works.

"Half vodka/ half water. And no, your clothes don’t smell of vodka. Can you not remember being a teenager and the “drink vodka”. Your parents will never know’.”

Although the broadcaster is seen using Smirnoff vodka in the video, she added: “You can use any old rubbish vodka. I was just out from my last batch”.
