Videos on social media showed riot police in action, with some attackers shouting anti-Israeli slurs. Footage also showed Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters chanting anti-Arab slogans before Thursday evening's match.

The attacks were condemned as antisemitic by authorities in Amsterdam, Israel and across Europe.

Israeli fans were attacked on Thursday night following a football match in Amsterdam after large crowds of Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters were filmed chanting anti-Arab slogans in the streets before the game. Five people were hospitalised and dozens were arrested. Tension had been growing in the days before the match, with a Dutch broadcaster reporting that a Palestinian flag had been ripped off a building in the center of the city on Wednesday. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered two rescue planes be sent to the Netherlands on Friday after violence targeting Israeli football fans broke out in Amsterdam overnight. Netanyahu condemned on Friday what he described as a premeditated attack during a call with his Dutch counterpart Dick Schoof.
