Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in talks with major club after rejecting international job

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned down an approach from Denmark because he is currently in negotiations with a ‘big club’.

Solskjaer has not returned to management since being sacked by United in November 2021. The Norwegian has been linked with a number of roles since then but has been holding out for ‘the right job with the right people’.

Tipsbladet report the Danish FA have approached Solskjaer with an offer to replace Kasper Hjulmand, who stepped down from his role in the summer with Lars Knudsen currently in the caretaker role.

But the United legend has declined further talks, according to the report, as he is in talks with a ‘major club’ for their head coach role.

Solskjaer revealed last month he would be interested in taking over as Norway head coach with current boss Stale Solbakken in charge until after the 2026 World Cup.

‘I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, when Stale finds out that he doesn’t want it anymore, I’m happy to enter into a conversation,’ he said.

‘I am very proud of where I come from.’

Solskjaer also recently made it clear he would jump at the chance to return to United if the chance ever presents itself.

Erik ten Hag is currently under intense scrutiny after a miserable start to the season with Thomas Tuchel thought to be the leading candidate to replace him should United decide to part ways.

‘If your family needs you, then of course they will help,’ Solskjaer told Norwegian outlet NKR.

‘I would say “yes” any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit and talk about jobs that other people have. But of course, yes. I would have said yes.’

He continued: ‘In the last three years, I have learned a lot about myself. I have travelled around with UEFA and attended a number of lectures and courses. I still want to get what I can out of a job, in a club or on a national team.’
