Kobbie Mainoo injury latest and Man Utd predicted line-up for crucial Porto game

by · Metro

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo trained with the squad on Wednesday morning after his injury scare against Tottenham.

Mainoo was replaced before half-time during Sunday’s disastrous defeat to Spurs at Old Trafford, heading straight down the tunnel shortly after Bruno Fernandes was shown his straight red card.

Footage appeared to show the 19-year-old telling Johnny Evans he had pulled his hamstring, promoting huge fears over the midfielder’s fitness ahead of two crucial games this week.

United head to Porto in the Europa League on Thursday before a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday with Erik ten Hag needing a swift response from his side to save his job.

The United boss admitted there were ‘concerns’ for Mainoo after he was forced off at the weekend but the sight of the England international back on the training pitch will be a much-welcomed boost for the under pressure manager.

Mainoo has been almost ever-present in United’s engine room this season, playing the full 90 in four of his side’s five league games before coming off early against Spurs.

Mason Mount was brought on to replace Mainoo that afternoon but was forced off himself late on in the contest after suffering a nasty cut following a clash of heads with Radu Dragusin.

How United could line up on Thursday night…

The former Chelsea midfielder received stitches after the game but was not pictured in Wednesday’s training sessions and will be considered a doubt for the trip to Porto.

Harry Maguire meanwhile was back in training after missing the Tottenham game through injury.

United are set to remain without left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
