Jed Wallace says West Brom players need to stay "calm" despite sitting pretty at the top of the table in the early stages of the Championship season.

Another win and clean sheet, this time at home to Wayne Rooney's Plymouth on Saturday, saw them cement their position after an impressive five wins and a draw this campaign, bouncing back from a play off semi final defeat to Southampton, and fans are started to get excited at the prospects of another promotion to the Premier League.

Wallace said: "At the moment it’s really positive. We’re all behind the manager, the fans are behind the manager, the club is going in the right direction.

“You always want to get off to a good start. I think last season we were 5th for pretty much the whole season. So you want to get as many points as you can, but we’re also aware that it can change so quickly. You can have a bad week in this league and you’re in crisis.

“We need to stay calm, use the experience we’ve got in the dressing room, and just keeping rolling into every game.”

Wallace, who has not been playing as much as he would have liked to this season owing to the form of Tom Fellows and Karlan Grant and the new signing of Mikey Johnston, is a consummate pro and puts the team first in every sense.

He said on his form: “I would much rather play 20 minutes and win, than play 90 minutes and lose.

“Everyone’s objectives are different. The leaders in the dressing room - myself, Kyle Bartley, Darnell Furlong, Alex Palmer, Alex Mowatt - our objective is not individual.

“It’s what can we do as senior players to help everyone in the dressing room get to where this club wants to be.

“We know the Championship. Once the international breaks get out of the way, how many games come and how quickly it can change.

“It’s important everyone is ready, and I think the attitude of everyone at the moment - to be honest it’s up there with what I’ve had in my career in terms of everyone just pulling in the same direction.

“The lads are doing so well in the starting XI that no one can have any grumbles about not playing and long may it continue.

“The main objective is that the fans leave here on a Saturday afternoon, and we’re all happy because we’ve won another game. It’s not about who can play the most minutes."
