Arjen Robben, the Dutch football legend, has given his verdict on the long-standing debate of who is the greatest footballer of all time; Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

Having played alongside both football giants during his illustrious career at clubs such as Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, as well as internationally for the Netherlands, Robben's opinion carries weight.

Since making his debut with Barcelona in 2004, Messi has left an indelible mark on the world of football, securing ten La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and seven Copa Del Reys at Camp Nou. His magic continued after his 2021 move to PSG, where he led the team to two Ligue 1 titles and even won a World Cup with Argentina in 2022.

His trophy cabinet also boasts eight Ballon d'Or titles, six European Golden Shoes, eight FIFA World Player of the Year awards and numerous other honours. Ronaldo's list of achievements is equally impressive, including three Premier League titles and a Champions League with Manchester United, two La Liga trophies and four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, and two Serie A winners' medals with Juventus.

Given the extraordinary accomplishments of both men in their football careers, deciding who is the superior player is no easy task. However, Robben has made his choice clear, stating that when all is said and done, Messi takes the crown.

During a discussion on the TOUZANI YouTube channel about skillful players, the 40 year old said: "You mentioned a few really big names who are very good at it. When I talk about it with the guys. The best ever. The best. Truly the absolute absolute absolute best ever, I always ask 'does he use tricks? '," according to a report by the Express. "And then the answer is no. Messi of course, he doesn't have tricks up his sleeve. He just does everything quickly. He has control, speed, and agility.", reports the Mirror.

Now in the sunset years of an awe-inspiring career, Lionel Messi, aged 37, is making waves at David Beckham's Inter Miami.

Fresh from his move to Florida, he recently added another trophy to his collection with a Leagues Cup victory, coupled with a Supporters' Shield, marking a sensational year for the forward. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other side, took his talents to Saudi Arabia in 2023 after a parting of ways with Manchester United the year prior.

Currently at 39, Ronaldo continues to dazzle at Al-Nassr, having already bagged the Arab Club Champions Cup last season. As these football icons approach 40, they persist in defying age with their sustained excellence.

Ronaldo’s record remains impressive with eight goals in nine games across all competitions this season for Al-Nassr, while Messi boasts 19 goals and 12 assists in 21 appearances for Inter Miami in the 2024 MLS campaign.
