Aston Villa attacker interest revealed as Liverpool scour market for Mohamed Salah successor

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as new rumours suggest the club are interested in Liverpool and Nottingham Forest target Omar Marmoush

Aston Villa have been named alongside Premier League rivals Liverpool in the hunt to sign Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Omar Marmoush.

After the club sold Moussa Diaby in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, the question remained if Villa would seek out an alternative before the opportunity was gone. They lost out to Chelsea in attempts to lure Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid and ultimately the decision was made to stay quiet in the market.

That was a decision that has so far been vindicated by the goalscoring exploits of Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran - the latter standing out in particular as an impact sub and being rewarded since with a new six-year contract.

But Unai Emery could seek to bolster his forward line with the added benefit of strategic planning time, rather than having rushed into any summer deal. According to Sky Sports Germany, Egyptian international Marmoush was on the club's list of targets when the window was last open.

They say he failed to secure a move to the Premier League then with Nottingham Forest another named suitor. Now though having scored eight goals and provided four assists in six Bundesliga outings this term, competition is growing for his signature.

Liverpool are named as the strongest on the list of admirers. In their case, the 25-year-old would be viewed as a replacement for countryman Mohamed Salah, who without intervention is due to be out of contract at Anfield come next summer.

Marmoush is described as 'not unsellable', despite Frankfurt's desire to keep their prized attacker - even hoping to tie him down with a new deal themselves. His current one runs through to 2027 and unfortunately for Villa there is no release clause present, meaning they would be forced to negotiate a fair fee in order to make a transfer happen.

During the summer he was speculated to have a £28m price tag - one that Forest refused to meet close to the deadline.
