Jake Paul's immediate reaction to Mike Tyson pulling out of their boxing fight

by · Birmingham Live

YouTube sensation-turned-boxer Jake Paul has shared his upset over boxing icon Mike Tyson having to postpone their fight. The pair were all set for a clash in July before Tyson endured an ulcer issue on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, leading to a four-month delay, with hospital staff finding a sizable bleeding ulcer.

The bout, which could draw in a crowd of 80,000 in Texas, was reshuffled for November 15 after Tyson was advised to lay off training. Discussing the setback in a Netflix documentary, Paul revealed, "When I received the news that he was out and not able to fight, I was just numb, I was just like, 'f***...'," adding that he thrives on routine and felt powerless due to the situation being beyond his control.

Paul holds immense respect for Tyson, noting, "Nobody can tell Mike Tyson what to do and if he wants to fight me, of course I'm going to say yes. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to fight one of the two most famous boxers to ever live; Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. I look at Mike Tyson as a killer so I never really expected something like this."

Paul faced off against bare-knuckle fighter and ex-UFC star Mike Perry on the date originally set for his bout with Tyson, securing a victory in the sixth round. He stated: "At the end of the day the Mike Tyson fight is great but I have a goal to become world champion and I'm not slowing that down for anyone."

Tyson's last appearance in the ring was four years ago when he fought to a draw with boxing icon Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match, which Tyson mostly controlled, reports the Mirror.

On the same night, Paul delivered a knockout blow to NBA's Nate Robinson in the second round. The upcoming fight between Tyson and Paul will be officially recorded, featuring two eight-minute rounds and the fighters wearing 14oz gloves.

This marks Tyson's return to professional fighting after nearly two decades, his last pro fight ending when he retired mid-match against Kevin McBride.
