Aston Villa take £100m measures over Chelsea's 'renewed' Jhon Duran transfer interest

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as Jhon Duran's performances this season have reportedly caused Premier League rivals Chelsea to renew their interest

by · Birmingham Live

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Jhon Duran in the transfer market, but would now have to pay Aston Villa at least double the price they were quoted when interest was first established in the summer.

Duran has been Villa's hero many a time this campaign, scoring five of his six goals from the bench. The latest came on Wednesday night when Unai Emery's side managed a historic result against European royalty Bayern Munich upon the Champions League's return to Villa Park.

But it almost didn't turn out that way, as a summer transfer saga had the 20-year-old looking set to leave the club. Chelsea were the first suitor to emerge, were allowed by Villa to enter personal discussions with the player, then ultimately walked away from negotiations by failing to meet the set £40m price tag.

Villa are reaping the rewards of this decision, though TEAMtalk have sent warning claiming that the Blues will re-enter the market for Duran at the next opportunity. To that end it would seem West Midlands chiefs are prepared and have reportedly established a new asking price of 'at least £80m' for the Colombian international.

Having played only 28 percent of the club's total Premier League minutes this term he averages a goal every 49.5 minutes, and the latest report even suggests if this goalscoring streak continues then the club's valuation could even sit closer to a nine-figure, £100m sum.

Duran must be loving life at Villa Park right now, but pundits can't avoid the feeling the young striker will soon be agitating to start ahead of Ollie Watkins if continually viewed as Unai Emery's second option. With that, it was recently also claimed he would be allowed to depart as Valencia's Hugo Duro has been identified as a £25m replacement.
