Predicted Man Utd XI for Aston Villa as Erik ten Hag decision leaves Marcus Rashford in the balance

Manchester United face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday but all the talk is about whether Erik ten Hag will still be in charge for the trip to Villa Park

Manchester United are set to face Aston Villa on Sunday in what could be Erik ten Hag's final game in charge. The Red Devils have been struggling this season, with only three victories in their first 10 matches and no wins in their last four games.

They narrowly avoided another defeat in the Europa League against Porto, thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Harry Maguire. Despite leading 2-0 within the first 20 minutes, United found themselves trailing 3-2 early in the second half and were reduced to 10 men after captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the second time in five days.

Although Fernandes will miss United's next European match due to suspension, he is expected to start against Villa as his red card from the 3-0 loss to Tottenham was overturned following a successful appeal. However, Marcus Rashford's position in the starting line-up is less certain after he was substituted at half-time during the Porto match, despite scoring the opening goal and assisting Rasmus Hojlund's strike.

Ten Hag cited 'rotation' as the reason for the substitution and praised Alejandro Garnacho's performance in the second half. It is likely that both Rashford and Garnacho will start on the flanks, with Amad dropping out of the starting line-up.

Erik ten Hag might shake things up in the midfield for Manchester United's upcoming clash, with Kobbie Mainoo not at full fitness for Thursday's match and Manuel Ugarte starting on the bench. The £43million centre-back Matthijs De Ligt is under scrutiny after a less than stellar performance, while Harry Maguire, who replaced him, turned out to be the hero of the night, reports the Mirror.

Fans are encouraged to get involved and share their thoughts on how Man Utd should line up against Aston Villa in the comments section.

The future of Ten Hag at Manchester United is the hot topic as the team prepares for their trip to Villa Park, especially with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to be present. A significant meeting is scheduled for Tuesday in London, which has been planned for some time and may include discussions about Ten Hag's role.

INEOS chairman Ratcliffe will be joined by Joel Glazer, INEOS head of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, United CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox. Chief financial officer Roger Bell and chief operating officer Collette Roche are also anticipated to attend.

However, the decision to potentially dismiss Ten Hag does not rest with Ratcliffe. In a BBC Sport interview on Friday, the petrochemicals tycoon stated: "I like Erik. He's a very good coach but at the end of the day it's not my call."

"It's the management team that's running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects. But that team that's running Manchester United has only been together since June or July."

"They weren't there in January, February, March or April – [CEO] Omar, Dan Ashworth - they only arrived in July. They've only been there - you can count it in weeks almost - they've not been there a long time, so they need to take stock and make some sensible decisions."
