NSWE have locked down Aston Villa's 'diamond' asset as value skyrockets

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has signed a new long-term contract which runs until the summer of 2030

Aston Villa have announced that striker Jhon Duran has signed a new long-term deal with the club on Monday. Duran, 20, has netted six goals in ten appearances this term, with five of them from the bench and all of them coming in Villa victories.

Duran, who has been at Villa for almost two years having joined from Chicago Fire in MLS in January 2023, has agreed fresh terms which will last until 2030, following a summer of uncertainty over his claret and blue future and a series of cameo appearances following which have seen him take Villa's campaign by storm.

The Colombian international capped a memorable evening against Bayern Munich last week by lobbing Manuel Neuer and securing Villa's second Champions League victory in as many games at the beginning of the campaign, and that followed stunning impacts made against Wolves, Everton, Leicester and West Ham in the Premier League.

Duran has announced himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League and has become a real asset to Villa, which the club have secured for the next six years at least. The form shown by Duran this season, coupled with his newfound contract status which the club were already in a strong position on, has seen the player's individual transfer value skyrocket.

"Securing our Colombian diamond," director of football operations Damian Vidagany said. "Jhon Duran 2030. Well deserved and in the right track! Now is time to stay humble, work even harder and keep the focus! UTV!"

Transfermarkt lists values for every player, and when Duran signed for Villa he was estimated to be worth €12m as a 19-year-old readying himself for the challenge which lay ahead in England. That value has steadily risen during Duran's time in Birmingham, and after the end of last season, when it stood at €20m, Duran's displays in recent weeks and months have seen that value skyrocket again up to an eye-catching €35m.
