Bayern Munich will be without three players at Aston Villa as they sweat on Harry Kane

Aston Villa host Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night

Aston Villa welcome Bayern Munich's star-studded squad to Villa Park on Wednesday night as they continue their Champions League adventure. Villa, who dropped points at Ipswich Town on Sunday, ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Swiss side Young Boys in their first Champions League fixture, but Bayern represent among their toughest challenges.

Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga table as they bid to reclaim their crown which they lost to Bayer Leverkusen last season; manager Vincent Kompany's reign has begun in impressive fashion, having secured 13 points from a possible 15 in the league and having stuck NINE past Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League already.

One player they're sweating on the availability of his Harry Kane; the forward has netted a phenomenal 54 goals in 52 appearances for Bayern since joining the club from Tottenham in the summer of 2023, but he limped off after being on the receiving end of a heavy challenge in the clash with Leverkusen on Saturday and has been undergoing treatment.

While Kompany will be able to call on talents like Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and the more experienced Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman, Kane's participation isn't at this stage a given. That said, there are three senior players who are certain to be unavailable having all suffered serious injury which have led to lengthy layoffs.

Right-back Sacha Boey, who the club only signed from Galatasaray this past summer, suffered a meniscus tear in training earlier this month and will be out until at least November. Fellow right-back Josip Stanisic tore his lateral knee ligament in another training session back in August and, like Boey, has also undergone surgery.

Centre half Hiroki Ito, too, broke his metatarsal in a pre-season friendly in the summer, and he has recently returned to the grass to complete running drills at the club's training ground, but the Villa game will come much too soon for his competitive return.
