Wales rugby star would 'definitely consider' Japan move

Adams has earned 59 caps for Wales since making his debut against Scotland in 2018

Wales star Josh Adams has revealed that he would consider heading to Japan when the time is right.

The 29-year-old currently plies his trade for Cardiff Rugby in the United Rugby Championship, and ruled himself out of Wales' recent summer tour of Australia. The wide man has struggled with injuries in recent times and therefore has struggled to find the sparkling 2019 form that made him into one of the best wingers on the planet.

Appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the Sportin Wales podcast, Adams was joined in the studio by Kubota Spears and Wales full-back Liam Williams, with the pair being interviewed by Sportin co-founder and friend Alex Cuthbert.

On the topic of Williams' exploits out in Japan, Cuthbert asked Adams whether it's something he would be interested in.

"It's definitely something I would consider," began Adams. "I would definitely consider it. When we went there in 2019 for the World Cup, I absolutely loved it and we were there for nine weeks.

"It's such a cool place, and hearing him (Williams) speak about it - yes, it would definitely be something I would consider. I don't know if (that would happen) just yet, mind! Maybe in a couple of years it would be, if there was an opportunity to do it then I would certainly consider it.

"From the experiences in 2019, from the places we stayed - there was a place called Shinjuku. Class place. Really enjoyed there, we stayed in this hotel called The New Otani - class."

Williams left Cardiff in June 2023 due to budget cuts in Welsh rugby. The Welsh icon signed for Spears on a reported £500,000 per season contract, substantially more than he could earn if he was playing in his country of birth. You can check out the full episode here.

An international call-up by Warren Gatland is looking unlikely for Adams at the time of writing. The speedster is injured at the moment, and Cardiff boss Matt Sherratt even confirmed that it'll be unlikely for him to get the call if he doesn't feature in the next three games for the capital city region.

"We'd like them to be (back before the end of the first block)," said Sherratt when asked about the fitness of Adams and Faletau. "But because they've been out such a substantial time, we'd rather them be a week too late than a week too early.

"What we don't want to do with both of them is waste six months of rehab and force them back in too early. If they make the end of the block, then great. But if not, then no drama.

"If they don't make the end of the block, they're not going to be medically fit to play, I would say. It would be a big call for two players who haven't played that long to go back into an international autumn series."
