Sarra Hoy, wife of the acclaimed cycling icon Sir Chris Hoy, has expressed her profound gratitude for the immense support following his announcement that he is battling terminal cancer.

Hoy, esteemed Olympic champion, candidly disclosed his prognosis before his journey to the Paris Olympics this summer. The decorated cyclist, who is 48, conveyed recently that doctors estimate he has between two and four years left to live.

Hoy had confirmed earlier this year that he was receiving chemotherapy treatments but managed to make an appearance at the Olympic Games during the summer. Since revealing the gravity of his situation, there's been a renewed wave of community backing.

In the face of widespread media attention around his health, Hoy has chosen to temporarily relocate with his family outside the UK, saying "hopefully the dust will have settled" upon their eventual return home. Meanwhile, Sarra took to Instagram to acknowledge those reaching out after her husband's heartfelt divulgence.

Utterly touched by the response, Sarra posted on Instagram: "Completely overwhelmed by your kind, thoughtful and helpful messages," adding that while many were unsure of what to say, simply reaching out was already bringing comfort. "Many people say they don't know what to say - that's OK, you don't need to have the words - just taking the time to message has been like a soothing balm to the soul. Thank you," reports the Mirror.

In a particularly poignant note, she shared how Hoy's openness about his condition has sparked a significant rise in men seeking advice on prostate cancer, inspiring them to potentially safeguard their own lives. "I've been told that men seeking advice about prostate cancer is up seven fold and that Chris's story is likely to save countless lives. This takes my breath away.

"Life is wonderful. We are excited about the future. We have so many more adventures planned.... And I am so fortunate to get to do it all with @chrishoy1 - the most incredible person I've ever met. Watching him on the BBC at the weekend was like watching a masterclass in strength of character, dignity and humility. I've said it before and I'll say it again - he truly is my real life superhero."
