Gary Neville concerned by what he heard from Man Utd dressing room before Tottenham defeat

Old Trafford great Gary Neville is gravely concerned by Christian Eriksen's comments about the grim state of affairs at Manchester United.

Wales talisman Brennan Johnson took just three minutes to open the scoring for Tottenham as the Red Devils slumped to their third Premier League loss of the season on Sunday. Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke joined the scoring as captain Bruno Fernandes' first-half dismissal saw Spurs open the floodgates.

The 3-0 thrashing marked United's third consecutive match without a win following consecutive draws against Crystal Palace and Twente. And it was after the latter that Eriksen, 32, criticised his team-mates by suggesting Twente's players "wanted it more."

Neville suggested this could indicate a metaphorical decay within the confines of United's changing room. Speaking on Sky Sports (via the Manchester Evening News) after Sunday's defeat to Ange Postecoglou's side, the United legend labelled his former team's performance "disgusting."

He said: "When I reflect on Christian Eriksen's comments after the game on Wednesday night, from someone who's in the changing room, from someone who's a very senior player who should be trusted, when he says that they didn't want it and they don't want it as much as another team in a football match, that matters more than anything that anybody else can say.

"He's inside there [the changing room], he's witnessing with his own eyes. We know what's happening in there can't be great because we see it transmits into what's happening on the pitch. That old saying of, 'what you do in training and what you do every day in your life comes out here on a Saturday or a Sunday' is very true.

"That's why when you hear people talk about in the Sir Alex Ferguson era, that training was at 100% intensity every single minute of every day, the preparation, the detail of every single thing, everything you eat, everything you do with your sleep, everything you do with drink and hydration. The detail of everything has got to be absolutely perfect, and then you might see something on a Saturday."

Hope was high for United in the middle of October after the team responded to a 3-0 thrashing at home to Liverpool with 10 goals in two games against Southampton and Barnsley. However, a second 3-0 loss at Old Trafford in just four games has put the club back in a gloom.

"There's no doubt that something's going wrong in that United dressing room because that today. . .what we saw in the first half today, honestly, it was the worst we've seen under Erik ten Hag," added Neville.

Following the latest setback, United sit 12th in the table and are eight points behind current leaders Liverpool. Although Ten Hag will be given the opportunity to improve the team's performance, his position once again looks precarious as the players struggle to produce on the bigger stage.
