That ensured that the Yankees will have home-field advantage through the ALCS — where they might very well meet the Astros, their playoff nemesis.

With the top seed, the Yankees will meet the winner of the Orioles and either the Tigers or Royals in the ALDS, which begins next Saturday.

The Guardians, as the two-seed, will face the winner of the Astros and either the Tigers or the Royals.

The Yankees enter the final day of the regular season Sunday with a one-game lead over the Guardians for the AL’s best record, but they own the tiebreaker, which allowed them to wrap up the top seed on Saturday.
