KUCHING (Sept 25): Sarawakian para sprinter, Filemon Lirong Dionisus, aims to compete in the South East Asia (SEA) Games.

The 29-year-old Para Sukma XXI three-gold medalist from Kapit acknowledged that much training and preparation is still needed to achieve his dream.

“I’ve always been passionate about sprinting, and this is my sixth time competing in Para Sukma since 2012. I’ve won numerous medals, including nine golds.

“I’m now committed to intense training, pushing myself harder with the goal of competing at a higher level, like the SEA Games,” the Kenyah lad told reporters when met after winning a gold medal in the men’s 200 metres T11 category today, where he clocked 26.65 seconds.

Today marks Filemon’s final day of competition in this year’s Para Sukma, where he secured three gold medals – one in the 100 metres on the first day, another in the 400 metres yesterday, and his third in the 200 metres today.

“I’m really happy to win three golds, especially since it’s in my home state.

“My original target was just two golds. I didn’t expect to win in the 400 metres. I’m especially happy because I’ve been dealing with an injury, but I pushed myself to stay motivated, and today I’m really pleased with the result,” he said.

He attributed his success to good ol’ determination and hard work.

“I earned these gold medals through sheer dedication. I’ve been training intensely, and even during my breaks, I would quietly continue training, whether jogging or going to the gym.

“Although I’m currently dealing with a slight injury, likely from overtraining, it hasn’t stopped me from pushing forward.

“I’m grateful I could give my best for Sarawak, my family, and everyone,” he said.
