Para Sukma XXI: Sarawak lawn bowlers unable to secure 83rd gold

KUCHING (Sept 28): Hopes of securing the 83rd gold medal – overall target of the Sarawak contingent at Para Sukma XXI – were dashed during the lawn bowls competition held at Sarawak Lawn Bowl Arena here today.

Pahang eventually topped the sport with five gold and one bronze medals.

Overall the state team finished second with three gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

Sarawak head coach Saiful Adli Sami was satisfied with the overall team performance.

“We’ve achieved our 3 gold medal target, however we missed the opportunity to compete in the finals today,” he said when met by reporters.

Sarawak’s three gold medals were obtained by Fatimah Sun (Women’s B1 Singles), Norhasfalinda Hamdan (Women’s Singles B3) and Nischal Nischolas Bujang (Men’s Doubles B6).

The silver medallists were Dayangku Aisah Awang Taha and Hazel Sigang Daud (B1 Doubles), Nur’Azreen Azirah and Then Chiew Yen (B2 Doubles), Liew Kit Shin (Men Singles B3), Then (Women Singles B2) and Azizie Suip (Men Singles B2).

Picking up bronze medals were Azizie and Rustam Effendy Umar (B2 Doubles); Dayangku Aisah Awang Taha (B1 Women Singles); Rustam (B2 Men Singles) and Ahmad Bashirun Ismail (Men Singles B6).

Sarawak was represented by 18 lawn bowls athletes in Para Sukma XXI.
