Manchester United "have not made an approach" for former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel amid growing pressure surrounding Erik ten Hag's future.

It was reported on Monday by the Manchester Evening News that Tuchel is being lined up by the Red Devils as a potential replacement for the Dutchman. It's said Tuchel, who left his role at Bayern Munich at the end of last season, is heavily admired by United officials and was even of interest to Man Utd in the summer but ultimately ten Hag kept his job.

It's said Man Utd chiefs are meeting on Tuesday to discuss footballing matters, with ten Hag's future likely to be among the topics discussed. Ahead of the meeting, Sky Sports have reported that United "have not made an approach" for former Bayern Munich boss Tuchel.

Ten Hag is expecting to still be in charge on the other side of this current international break, insisting on Sunday that he retains the backing of senior United officials. The report states Tuchel has not received "any formal communication" from United about the prospect of becoming their new boss.

Tuchel joined Chelsea in January 2021 and won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge. He was sacked in September 2022 shortly after the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium bought the club from Roman Abramovich in a £2.5billion deal.

Speaking about ten Hag's future, Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: "He’ll probably find it tough to get to the next international break as the manager, but if the results turn of course he will. At Man Utd it’s not just about results, for a long time it’s been about performances. A lot of the time when they get results, it feels a little bit fortunate in some ways.

"Last season Scott McTominay got so many last-minute goals for them, and you know if performances don’t improve they can’t get sustained results. They might get one here or there, that’s why we love the game, unexpected things can happen. But the start of this season hasn’t been too different in terms of performances, you’re seeing the same things we saw last season.

"It’ll be tough for him, but I do have sympathy for him. He’s been hung out to dry on the back of the ownership talking to other managers in the summer. "No-one in employment would want their bosses publicly speaking to lots of different people within the game, but it’s going to be tough for him to see out the season."
