Caicedo world-class, James great but Gusto poor - Chelsea player ratings in Man Utd draw

by · football.london

Chelsea have drawn away at Manchester United with Moises Caicedo's stunning volley proving enough to get a point at Old Trafford.

Enzo Maresca made wholesale changes once again, with the entire XI being changed from the midweek defeat away at Newcastle United. However, it was the same Blues team that defeated the Magpies at Stamford Bridge seven days ago.

Chelsea were the side that almost went ahead in the early stages at Old Trafford. Noni Madueke met Cole Palmer's corner but the winger's header smashed the outside of the post.

United then hit the crossbar through a Marcus Rashford volley on the stroke of half-time. And it was the Red Devils that took the lead with around 20 minutes left to play in Manchester through a Fernandes penalty.

Robert Sanchez brought Rasmus Hojlund down in the box and referee Rob Jones had no hesitation whatsoever in pointing to the spot. Fernandes made no mistake from 12 yards out and it looked as if that would be enough for United.

Not long after, though, Caicedo struck in a fantastic volley to leave Andre Onana helpless. The match ended with both teams scoring one apiece. Below, Bobby Vincent rates each Chelsea player out of 10 based on their individual performance...

Robert Sanchez - Gives away the penalty. Rash decision-making. 5.

Malo Gusto - Gave it away too much. One moment where he had the chance to release Madueke and it didn't look a difficult pass but he hit it straight at Noussair Mazraoui. Sloppy performance. 4.

Wesley Fofana - Enjoyed a physical battle with Rasmus Hojlund - something Fofana clearly relishes. 6.

Levi Colwill - Solid. Alongside Fofana, he didn't give Hojlund anything to feed on. 6.

Reece James - At left-back again. A few long passes in behind the United defence - a dangerous weapon for Chelsea to possess. So switched on defensively. Great performance. 7.

Romeo Lavia - Really good yet again. Lavia and Moises Caicedo are quite the partnership already. 7.

Moises Caicedo - Exceptional. Again. It is becoming quite the theme this season for the Ecuadorian. Even before his wondergoal, I was writing about how great he had been but that was the cherry on the cake. 8.5.

Noni Madueke - So unlucky about 15 minutes in after hitting the post with a header. Bright but the service - to no fault of his own - was not there for him. 6.

Cole Palmer - Got better as the first-half went on and reminded us of his brilliance with the odd touch here and there. 7.

Pedro Neto - Started brightly. But a bit like Madueke, the service to the wide areas was not good enough. 6.

Nicolas Jackson - A quiet game for his standards. But, again, little to no service - he was feeding off scraps. 5.5.

Substitutes

Marc Cucurella - On at half-time for Gusto. Bright. Everywhere. 6.

Mykhailo Mudryk - Didn't get involved in the game after coming on. 5.

Enzo Fernandez - Misses a good chance to put Blues ahead. 6.
