Pep Guardiola reveals England job stance as Man City boss provides exciting future update

As it stands, Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City when his contract expires in the summer and he's been tipped to replace Gareth Southgate as England boss

Pep Guardiola has sparked speculation about his future, admitting 'anything can happen'. Since Gareth Southgate stepped down as England boss after Euro 2024, the Manchester City boss has been heavily linked with the vacant head coach position at Wembley Stadium.

It's reported that Lee Carsley, who's taken interim charge, has no interest in taking the job on a full-time basis with Guardiola among those being mooted as a possible replacement. The Spaniard sees his contract at the Etihad Stadium expire in the summer, which would align perfectly as the Three Lions gear up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

When quizzed by Che Tempo Che Fa on his future, Guardiola played it cool. As quoted by the Express, the former Barcelona boss said: "I haven't finished my career at Manchester City yet, I still have to think about it."

"It's not true that I'll be the England coach. I haven't decided anything yet, if I had decided my future at Manchester City I would say so, anything can happen in life."

This comes during a challenging period for Manchester City, with director of football Txiki Begiristain's impending exit and the club facing an independent commission over the Premier League's 115 charges, which they strongly refute.

During an Italian talk show, Pep Guardiola playfully set a condition for a potential move to Serie A. As quoted by the Express, he said: "Future in Italy? If [Roberto] Baggio accompanies me as assistant."

The Manchester City boss recalled his time at Brescia alongside the football icon, expressing deep admiration by saying: "I knew him when he was in the final moments of his career and with a ruined knee, but he was still the strongest. I can only imagine when he was in his prime. He is loved everywhere."

Discussing his coaching career achievements, Guardiola cheekily suggested he's the best, citing his success with league, cup, and Champions League trebles at two clubs. When it comes to influences, Johan Cruyff was the pivotal figure who made Guardiola 'fall in love with football'.

Reflecting on Cruyff's impact, he said: "I can't imagine how my life and career would have gone without Cruyff. He taught me so much on a tactical level, but above all he created me from a human point of view. He was a genius, unique. He made me fall in love with football."

Guardiola looks forward to continuing the chase for Manchester City's fifth consecutive Premier League title, with a clash against Wolves on Sunday. Meanwhile, Arsenal face Bournemouth on the south coast and Liverpool host Chelsea.
