Enzo Maresca faces a dilemma after the international break with both Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella suspended for the Premier League away game against Liverpool.

Both received their fifth yellow cards of the season in the second half of what turned into a feisty encounter against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, despite Forest being reduced to 10 men for the final 12 minutes after James Ward Prowse’s second yellow card for handball.

Chelsea were shown a total of six yellow cards during the game, meaning that they will receive a fine from the FA for the second time this season. Cucurella’s caution was issued for dissent, but it’s something that head coach Maresca doesn’t mind seeing too much.

Speaking post-match about ill-discipline, he said: “I like the team the way they are fighting. I like the way they are becoming a team in these kinds of things. I don’t see any problems about that.”

On a fine from the FA and the suspension of Fofana and Cucurella, the Italian added: “I like the spirit of our team.”

However, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has taken a slightly harsher view of his teammates. Speaking on the absence of the duo vs Liverpool, Sanchez sent a warning. "Massive players but it was unlucky," he said via BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella.

He added: “They need to stop talking to the officials. We have some very good players to come in."

The absence of both Fofana and Cucurella leaves Maresca with some selection decisions to make over the international break. Both players have started six of the seven Premier League games so far this season, but will be forced to sit out what could be a crucial clash at Anfield with Liverpool currently top of the Premier League table.
