football.london takes a look at how the Gunners could line up for their Premier League clash at St. James' Park

After a win over Preston in midweek, spirits are back up again at Arsenal. The game was exactly what Arsenal needed from a Carabao Cup tie.

Youngster Ethan Nwaneri grabbed another goal on his second senior start while Gabriel Jesus also ended his nine-month drought. Now, Mikel Arteta must turn his attention back to the Premier League.

Whisper it quietly, but the trip to Newcastle is a huge match for Arsenal. They are already five points behind league leaders Manchester City, but Arteta is insisting he's not sweating over it yet.

"You want to be first," he said in his pre-match press conference. "We know the situations that we have to play with this season. We are right in the mix. We know the tough challenge that going to face tomorrow and we’re fully ready for that."

Secretly though, Arteta will know Arsenal can't afford to drop too many more points. It's crucial he gets his team selection spot on. Here's how we're expecting the Gunners to line up at St. James' Park.

Goalkeeper - David Raya

Right-back - Thomas Partey

Ben White has picked up a fresh joint issue after struggling with groin problems earlier this season. With Thomas Partey playing so well at right back against Liverpool, there doesn't seem to be a need to rush him back.

Centre-back - William Saliba

Centre-back - Gabriel

Gabriel's injury against Liverpool, thankfully wasn't as bad as first feared. He should be fine to start against Newcastle.

Left-back - Jurrien Timber

Jurrien Timber was brought off at half-time against Preston to save him for this match. Expect him to start against Newcastle at left-back.

Central midfield - Declan Rice

Central midfield - Mikel Merino

Right wing - Bukayo Saka

No player has created more chances than Bukayo Saka in the Premier League this season. After more minutes in his legs against Preston, expect him to keep that up.(Image: Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images)

Left wing - Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard didn't play a minute at Preston. Gabriel Martinelli took a bit of a whack in that game and had to come off. Expect the Belgian to start on the left here.(Image: (Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images))

Centre forward - Kai Havertz

Many say that Newcastle away was the game last season when Kai Havertz finally arrived at Arsenal. He'll want to mark the day with a great performance up front.(Image: Getty Images)

Centre forward - Gabriel Jesus
