World champ Kyren Wilson launches explosive snooker rant over 'same s***, different day'

World snooker champion Kyren Wilson has doubled down on his rant following his fourth-round exit at the British Open, claiming his 'face doesn't fit'

Kyren Wilson launched an explosive rant at the snooker authorities following his defeat at the British Open.

The world champion was dumped out in the fourth round in Cheltenham, losing 4-2 to Elliott Slessor. Afterwards, Wilson took to Instagram to complain about his treatment this season.

The 32-year-old said he had been “demoted” from the main table at tournaments, including at the new Saudi Arabia Masters. Wilson also moaned about being given the “graveyard shift” at the English Open in Brentwood last week and concluded by claiming his “face doesn’t fit”.

As a world champion, he believes he deserves better. Wilson blasted: “Same s*** different day demoted to table 2 again and get found out! What benefits does a world champion get nowadays?

“Graveyard shift in Brentwood, table 2 in Saudi every game whilst being the number 1 seed there! Table 2 tonight in Cheltenham and being the highest ranked in the session… unfortunately nothing ever changes with the sport I love, if your face doesn’t fit… tough [thumbs up emoji].”

Wilson later added on X: “People can have their opinions, Always been that you earn the right for the privileges. Apparently not anymore. I always try to promote the sport and be a good ambassador for it. What’s the point?

Several snooker fans agreed with Wilson’s complaints, with one saying on X: “He's got a point. There's no consistency on how they decide the TV match. Sometimes it's the highest ranked player, often it's the most popular player, and rarely it's the best match.”

Another added: “Has a point but hope he’s not blaming his loss on that. Would be disrespectful to ES, as it’s a big win for him.” Others though suggested Wilson’s style of play may be counting against him. One suggested: “Maybe it's because his style doesn't attract the crowds.”

A second said: “He might have a case, but also a lot better players to watch. It's a business so you can't blame WST if other players get preference.”

Slessor’s reward for his victory over the Crucible king is a quarter-final against John Higgins. The highlight of the last-eight ties is world number one Judd Trump versus Mark Allen, who made a 147 against Ben Mertens earlier in the week.

That maximum break came days after he said a table at the tournament “needs to be burned” following his victory over Gary Wilson amid a rant about playing conditions during an interview.
