Newsboy's horse racing selections for Monday's four meetings, including Pontefract Nap

Newsboy expects his Nap, Altmore, to defy top weight in the first division of the Constant Security Services Handicap (4.45) at Pontefract and he also rates Walsingham in the 4.12 at the Yorkshire track

ALTMORE should give his rivals weight and a beating in the Constant Security Services Handicap (Div I) (4.45) at Pontefract this afternoon.

We didn’t see the William Haggas-trained son of Showcasing until November last year, when he marked his two-year-old debut with a full-of-promise fourth at Newcastle.

A further 297 days ensued – Altmore was gelded during that time – before he returned to action at Chepstow at the beginning of last month, getting the better of market rival Caffu Zafeen by a short head for a six-furlong maiden.

The handicapper’s hands were tied by that result, and a British Horseracing Authority mark of 76 looks there to be shot at as Altmore, who has more to offer on just the third start of his life, makes his debut in the sphere.

Earlier on the Pontefract card, WALSINGHAM is of definite interest in the Napoleons Casino Bradford Handicap (4.12).

The Lope De Vega-sired four-year-old is still a maiden after nine attempts but, having left Dermot Weld, made a pleasing start for David O’Meara with a fourth in a Redcar novice stakes last month.

Walsingham should strip fitter on the back of that 398-day absence, and a mark of 76 for his first foray into handicap company doesn’t look punitive.
