Dak Prescott season in doubt after brutal Dallas Cowboys injury confirmed
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has issued an update on Dak Prescott's hamstring injury after the quarterback suffered a serious problem in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons
by Jarrod Castillo · The MirrorThe Dallas Cowboys are grappling with Dak Prescott's serious hamstring injury, which struck during their 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
That's added to the team's woes in a challenging first half of the season with a 3-5 NFL record. Prescott, who suffered a partial avulsion of his hamstring, is getting multiple medical opinions, and while the prospect of returning to play hangs in the balance, head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that Prescott remains hopeful about making a comeback this season.
"He's still going through the process," McCarthy said, per the Associated Press. "I visited with him again this morning on it. He's still collecting information, different opinions, and that will continue through next week. But he's here every day.
"I think that would be his goal [to return to the field after his hamstring injury]. I know he wants to keep playing, but I think it’s important to go through the process and gather all of the information. This is obviously a serious injury."
Moreover, Jerry Jones told '105.3 The Fan' that placing Prescott on injured reserve seems likely, which would entail him missing at least four games. The potential for surgery looms, threatening to end his season prematurely if such a step is necessary.
Jones admitted to the media that he felt apprehension upon witnessing the injury. "It concerned me when I saw the play or I saw him have a reaction to any weakness that he might have had there in his ham," he said. "We just have to take a look at that."
Jane Slater of NFL Network elaborated on the severity of the injury noting it involved a tendon partially torn from the bone. Her prognosis is an extended recovery period which could exceed four weeks, a timeframe potentially critical for the Cowboys' playoff ambitions.
Despite the tough season Dallas is going through, Jones shared an encouraging word with supporters after a particularly rough loss, insisting on his unwavering belief in the team. The 82-year-old expressed confidently: "We'll tell you this that I've been around. I've seen Michael Irvin tear up and cry when he couldn't lose anybody because he's just recovering from knee surgery. Yet his --- came back and led the team to three Super Bowls. I know you can be there if you're there. That room's full of guys that can get it done. I believe in 'em, coaches and all."
With Prescott sidelined, Cooper Rush steps in as quarterback for the upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
