PSG launch Mohamed Salah transfer bid after Thierry Henry tip as Liverpool problems mount

Mohamed Salah's contract at Liverpool will expire at the end of the season, with PSG now eyeing a move as they look to bring in a new superstar to replace Kylian Mbappe

PSG have launched a bid to sign Mohamed Salah, with his Liverpool contract set to expire in the summer.

Salah will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs from the start of the January transfer window. It had been thought that clubs in Saudi Arabia would be first in line for the Egyptian superstar.

Ahead of last season, Saudi giants Al-Ittihad saw a £150million bid for Salah rejected by Liverpool. But the Reds are still yet to open talks with their star attacker over a new contract to replace the deal expiring at the end of the current campaign.

And that has opened the door for a blockbuster move to PSG, who are still smarting from Tuesday's defeat to Arsenal. The French side have moved away from their Galaticos transfer strategy in recent years, but the temptation of signing Salah may prove too great.

According to The Sun, PSG are willing to offer the 32-year-old a three-year deal to move to the Parc des Princes on wages that would blow Liverpool out of the water. Salah is said to be keen to remain playing at the top level, with a move to Saudi being a clear step down.

PSG's Qatari owners are under pressure to bring in a superstar signing following the departure of Kylian Mbappe. Their defeat to the Gunners has created further unrest, with Thierry Henry blasting their lack of a superstar to lead the team.

He told CBS Sports: “They don’t have that match-winner, that game winner, that they had in the past. Yes the team is a bit more well-balanced, but in and around the box, we didn’t see much. You don’t obviously have Mbappé. They had the ball, a lot of possession but that is about it. That wasn’t enough.”

PSG boss Luis Enrique is under pressure to bring in a statement signing

PSG are keen to relaunch their push for a Champions League and are now eyeing Salah as the man to take them over the final hurdle. He has started the season in sparkling form, scoring five goals in nine games in all competitions.

His latest strike came on Wednesday as Liverpool edged Bologna in the Champions League. That saw him become the first Liverpool player to score in five consecutive European Cup matches at Anfield, drawing high praise from boss Arne Slot.

"What can I say about Mo? What you saw today is what you get. If you bring him often enough in positions like this, he can score a goal. He had a great assist as well. I think before Wolves, Mo played three games without scoring a goal," he said.

"In football it can happen that sometimes in three games you score one or you don’t score. But these players, like Mo, like Darwin, like all the others, they will always score their goals if you just keep playing them – the thing is, I can’t play them all!

"But it’s good to have them and they will always score their goals. Mo has done really well today and I am happy with what he does at the moment. I am not looking forward to next season as long as we have six group games to play and hopefully many others to come afterwards."
