Presidents Cup star sets record straight on US team room rumours after huge victory

Keegan Bradley has rubbished whispers claiming there's a lack of harmony among American golfers during team events.

Last year's Ryder Cup sparked speculation that Patrick Cantlay had caused a rift within Team USA over compensation issues which led him to allegedly refuse wearing a cap. However, the 32-year-old golfer later branded such talk as "totally unfounded" as his team fell to a 16.5 - 11.5 defeat to Team Europe, helmed by Luke Donald.

Bradley featured in this month's Presidents Cup held at Royal Montreal Golf Club, which pits America's finest against the world's top players. Bringing his A-game to his first major team event since the 2014 Ryder Cup, Bradley, alongside talents like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark, played under captain Jim Furyk's guidance.

Following their victorious 18.5 - 11.5 finish over Mike Weir's international squad, Bradley shared only praise for his team's unity. Post-victory, Bradley said: "I gained a knowledge of the team room. You always hear about the US team room not being whatever, and this is the most...the greatest team room I've ever been a part of."

Meanwhile, Clark also dismissed the divisive rumours, stating Team USA's bond was always strong, and again rubbished claims coming out at last year's Ryder Cup. He insisted: "Contrary to what people thought last year at the Ryder Cup, we were in my opinion closer than the Europeans," reports the Express.

"The media tries to divide us apart, and this year we were just as close if not closer. We had so much camaraderie and positive energy between us. When things weren't going well, we still were all picking each other up. It was an amazing team room. So many laughs, so many fond memories."

Despite being sidelined for the 2023 Ryder Cup, Bradley is gearing up to captain Team USA next September at Bethpage Black. The 38-year-old might not have been the PGA's initial pick for the captaincy, yet was pleased to accept the role after the legendary Tiger Woods respectfully turned it down.

Regarding his upcoming leadership role, Bradley shared in June: "My passion and appreciation for golf's greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport. And this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations."

Englishman Donald is set to captain Team Europe once more following a triumph in Rome last year. With a stellar Ryder Cup record, Donald has secured victories in all four cups he's participated in and has served as a vice-captain under both Thomas Bjorn in 2018 and Padraig Harrington in 2021.
