Frank Lampard lined up for surprise managerial return with European giants
Frank Lampard is among the names being looked at by Roma, whose owners are weighing up another change of manager following a dismal start to their Serie A campaign
by Alan Smith · The MirrorFrank Lampard could follow in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho after emerging as a surprise contender for the Roma job - but another ex-Chelsea head coach is also in the reckoning.
The Blues record goalscorer is being looked at as a replacement for under pressure Ivan Juric with the Serie A side languishing in 11th position having lost 3-2 away to Hellas Verona on Sunday.
However, Graham Potter is another name admired by owners The Friedkin Group, while La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Paulo Sousa could be tempted into a return to Italy should a decision be taken to sack Juric in the coming days. Juric had only taken over in September as a replacement for club legend Daniele de Rossi.
Sousa - who was briefly in charge of Queens Park Rangers, Swansea and Leicester - is presently in charge of UAE Premier Division club Shabab Al Ahli having had spells at Fiorentina and Salernitana in the Italian top flight. He also has a release clause that the Friedkins must pay.
Neither Lampard nor Potter have worked since leaving Stamford Bridge after difficult spells in the dugout.
Both men have spent time in front of the TV cameras with former England midfielder Lampard appearing on Sky for Sunday’s draw between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Potter has been working for Sky and appeared on the BBC in recent weeks. He has been linked with a host of jobs in the past 18 months but is still waiting for the right project having turned down the Ajax job among other vacancies.
Lampard, 46, remains keen on a return to management but has not been considered by a number of big clubs having failed to change Chelsea’s fortunes during a brief stint in charge in 2022-23..
The Friedkin Group are actively trying to complete a takeover of Everton and Dan Friedkin was in the UK in late October to try and finalise the deal.
