The in-form tipster has found three each way recommendations from the meeting at Ayr, including one in both the Ayr Gold Cup and Silver Cup

IT’S easy to spot the Wood amongst the trees in the Virgin Bet Ayr Silver Cup.

GRANT WOOD (2.25) has been in great form this season and this consolation race for horses that didn’t make the cut for the Ayr Gold Cup looks well within his capabilities.

He won nicely at Haydock in June and he didn’t get the clearest of runs in his two subsequent starts before heading to the consolation race for Ripon’s Great St Wilfrid.

The way he sliced through the field from the rear to land the prize was pretty impressive at a track that doesn’t always suit horses trying to come from off the pace.

He does travel very well and he has plenty of gears making these big-field handicaps just what he wants. The drying ground is also in his favour. Have 1pt each-way at 22-1. Most bookies are paying out on six places with Sky Bet stretching to seven.

I’ve long since thought GLENFINNAN (3.35) was the right type for the Ayr Gold Cup.

He won at Ascot earlier in the season before going on to finish a close fifth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot.

There’s a case for saying he sat a little too close to the early pace in that 6f handicap but he does stay sprint distances very well.

That was underlined when he swooped late to overcome traffic problems over 7f at Sandown last month in a race that had plenty of depth to it.

All three selections run at Ayr

His trainer Michael Dods has been banging in the winners this week after a quiet spell, so everything looks in place for a big run. Have 1pt each-way at 18-1. Sky Bet is going a generous eight places.

PERFECT PART (3.00) caused a huge shock when winning Beverley’s Hilary Needler Trophy at 125-1 on her debut in June.

She ran solid races under a penalty in 5f novice races and she was far from disgraced when fifth in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York last month.

The step up to 6f helped her and today’s stiffer track at Ayr should suit her even better in the Group 3 Virgin Bet Firth Of Clyde Stakes.

This looks an open race and she is over-priced at 14-1. Have 1pt each-way. Several firms are offering four places.
