Man City boss Pep Guardiola to receive 'new job offer' after being left 'annoyed' at snub

Pep Guardiola has been an irresistible force at Manchester City, but there has been a feeling that his time at the club could come to an end

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has already missed one chance to manage Brazil – but the opportunity could come back around again soon, according to reports.

Guardiola, 53, has less than one year on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, which expires at the end of June 2025. He has previously said he has ambitions of managing an international team and has repeatedly told the press that he has not made his mind up on his future at City.

He has been on the blue side of Manchester for nine years, longer than the time he spent at Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Catalan was previously linked with the Brazil job after he left the latter in 2013, but the five-time world champions opted to pursue other options.

This reportedly left Guardiola feeling annoyed at the apparent snub. Eleven years later, reports are claiming Brazil have launched a fresh charm offensive to sway him to South America.

According to the Athletic, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has called Guardiola on several occasions this year. Guardiola was also linked with the England job, but offered little hint that he would be interested come next year.

The Three Lions ultimately appointed Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate's replacement last month. Despite Guardiola's contract situation, there has also been a feeling that he could put pen to paper on a new deal at the Citizens.

It's also claimed that Guardiola may manage the club for one more year, which would give him four seasons to prepare for the 2030 World Cup, rather than the limited amount of time he'd have taking over a national team ahead of 2026. He has given little indication on what his decision will be, with his future still up in the air despite Brazil's apparent overtures.

Guardiola recently addressed City's recent dire run of form which has seen them lose to Tottenham in the League Cup, Bournemouth in the Premier League and Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League. The latter was particularly emphatic, as goals from Maximiliano Araujo and a hat-trick from Viktor Gyokeres saw the Portuguese giants run out 4-1 winners.

After the match, he pledged to turn the currently stuttering City machine around. He said: "More than ever, I want to lift up the team and return them to their top level.

“It is a tough challenge, but I am here. It will be a tough season — we knew that from the start. But this is what it is. I like it, I love it, I want to face it and lift my players and try it.”

Guardiola's future became more uncertain when sporting director Txiki Begiristain departed the club. Responding to the Spaniard's exit and his own future, he said: “I’m pretty sure the club had options when Txiki leaves and they have options when Pep will leave.

"Sooner or later it is going to happen and they are prepared so it’s not going to be a surprise. I want to be convinced it’s what’s best for the club.

“I will not delay any action knowing that I’m creating a problem for the club. If I feel I’m a problem for the club, I will take a decision as quickly as possible. But I don’t have that feeling, they understand the reasons I have.”
