Christopher Nkunku addresses Chelsea exit question after making just 25 appearances

Christopher Nkunku may be struggling to break into Enzo Maresca's best XI at Chelsea but the France international has laughed off suggestions Paris Saint-Germain may be interested in a transfer

Christopher Nkunku has played down talk of a move to Paris Saint-Germain with the Chelsea forward keen to work his way into Enzo Maresca's starting XI.

The France international has had to make an impact off the bench so far this season - most notably contributing a late winner away to Bournemouth in September - with Nicolas Jackson the preferred starting centre forward.

And that has led to speculation that Nkunku, who has made only 25 appearances for the club three months into his second season, may be looking for a route out of Stamford Bridge.

But, speaking to Telefoot while on international duty, Nkunku said of the transfer chatter: " PSG remains a big club, but there has not been one approach."

France face Belgium in the Nations League on Monday night after comfortably brushing aside Israel 4-1 on Friday evening, with Nkunku finally getting off the mark for Les Bleus.

Chelsea, meanwhile, return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to leaders Liverpool.

The momentum of Maresca’s team was slowed by Nottingham Forest before the break but confidence is high after a strong start to the campaign, inspired by leading light Cole Palmer and with Jackson also stepping up.

That means Nkunku, a £52million signing from RB Leipzig in 2023, will have to sit patiently on the sidelines again this weekend. He has started just once in the league so far this season and spent a hefty chunk of last season ruled out through knee and hamstring injuries.

But Maresca insists he remains highly thought of and is happy to have two centre forwards pushing each other for one spot.

"Both Nicolas and Christo are doing fantastic, not only because they are scoring but in the way they work off the ball and sacrifice for the team. That is very important for both of them," Maresca said last month.

"It’s a nice problem when you have two strikers who continue to score. Unfortunately, Marc Guiu is not scoring at this moment but hopefully soon he can score goals as well."
